Uruguay Wingshooting
A recount of one of my last Uruguay wingshooting trips:
"Laika, a small and young English Setter was on a staunch point on one, and possibly a pair of Perdiz. She was rock-still, with her tail sticking straight out, like a branch on an olive tree. Her right hind paw came off the ground ever so slightly to signal to The Guns that it was time to move in tight in behind her, as she had relocated this Perdiz several times, and wanted to make deadly sure that this one did not escape the grasp of The Team.
Miguel, a veteran Perdiz hunting outfitter in Uruguay, kept Laika calm with a few words of confidence in Spanish that none of us who had ever been bird hunting in Uruguay could understand. We then moved up ever so slightly behind the dog until we heard a loud PPPPPPPSSSSSSSHHHHHHH! Not one, but two Perdiz shot out of the grass and began their flight toward an old abandoned barn-the only distinguishable feature in the wide background of this grassy pasture.
I squeezed off my first shot-and missed. My second shot clipped the wing of the nearer Perdiz, sending it into a snap roll to the left that ended with the bird thumping the ground ever so unceremoniously, with a thump, about thirty yards away. Just when I thought the second Perdiz had escaped, Laika came running back with the bird in her mouth, eager to get it to Miguel, and have so she could give chase to the cripple. My shooting partner, and fellow Uruguay wingshooting aficionado, Brent, had dropped the bird with a single shot from his Merkel double-barreled 16 ga. smokepole.
I never heard the shot; I suppose I was lost in the excitement and surprise of the double flush that ensued only moments ago that now seemed like nothing but a blur. We shouted simultaneously in delight as it had concluded our outing for the morning. We had been hunting for exactly two hours, and we had now reached our limit of ten Perdiz each.
That was the bad news...this Uruguay Perdiz hunting day was over, but the good news was that in just a couple of hours, we would be going through about three cases of 20 ga. #7's in a dove roost just down the road. Brent had been dove hunting in Argentina last week, but this was my first time of the year to do any high volume shooting, so I guess I was just a little bit more excited than he was, I surmised as I watch him lazily loading his double gun into his gun case, and staring out into the wild blue yonder. Just another shitty day in paradise, hunting in Uruguay, I chortled to myself...Lord, I only ask that you grant me many more years of this to come..."

Wingshooting in Uruguay with Los Gauchos
Los Gauchos is proud to be Number One in Uruguay. Our efforts here since 2001 have earned us the top spot in the Uruguay wingshooting community, setting a standard that is the envy of all other bird hunting outfitters in Uruguay.
One of the best ways to get yourself close to the action, before actually coming down here, is to view one of several of our Uruguay duck hunting videos and Uruguay dove shooting videos. Featured on Benelli's American Safari and The Beretta Bird Hunter's Journal with Chris Dorsey, our Uruguay bird hunting programs are A rated, and very consistent. Consistency, probably more than anything, is what separates the most successful outfitters in Uruguay, from the least successful. The conduct of diligent scouting, top-flight equipment and gear, and other critical behind the scenes details are crucial to success.
Los Gauchos now offers several destinations for Uruguay wingshooting which for South America means: high volume shooting - no limits for dove hunting - and no season - anytime, with Los Gauchos Outfitters, dove hunting in Uruguay is here.
Uruguay dove hunting is available in Colonia, Uruguay and areas close to Colonia. Google Colonia and you will see the benefits of travel to Uruguay and Colonia. Pigeon hunting requires diligent scouting and baiting-just like duck hunting in Argentina, duck hunting in Mexico, or anywhere else for that matter. A reputable outfitter has several employees dedicated exclusively to the task, and rain, snow, or shine, the disciplined approach to managing the resources remains the same.
