Uruguay Perdiz Hunting in combo with Uruguay Duck Hunting...
Los Gauchos Style!

Hunting for ducks in Uruguay is great fun!  It is fast and furious waterfowling action that will leave your barrel hot, even in the middle of winter—which is in August!

The areas where the hunting takes are sparsely populated, which is perfect for waterfowl hunting in Uruguay—or anywhere else in the world for that matter. The region that we hunt in is dedicated mainly to rice production, and the abundance of lagoons and wetlands is amazing.

On top of that, the locals are not bird hunters, making it a paradise for the traveling wingshooter. Rosybills, Teal, and Whistling Tree Ducks all abound, and none of them are decoys shy.

In keeping with waterfowl hunting tradition, you will leave the lodge very early in the morning after a good breakfast, all set to enjoy some of the best wingshooting in Uruguay. Be prepared for a few chilly mornings, and even some rain.  Waders are mandatory, and Los Gauchos recommends Church Creek Bootfoot Waders from Orvis.  All Orvis products are high quality, and they are an all around excellent choice for duck and Perdiz hunting in Uruguay.

These products will keep your feet warm, dry and comfortable.   Also, for Uruguay duck hunting, we recommend that you insulate yourself with a RedHead® Bone-Dry® C.W.S. Parka (Bass Pro) and some head wear like the waterproof Breathable Waterfowler’s hat from Orvis.

Gloves like the Red Head Sensor Grip will keep your fingers ready for the action on freezing mornings, and even though it rarely freezes in Uruguay, you can feel comfortable with the peace of mind that if it does, you will be properly prepared for any kind of Uruguay wingshooting venue.

While you pan the horizon looking for those first flights, it pays off to pay attention to your guide; he knows the area and the behavior of the birds, so let him call the shots. He will indicate where they birds are coming from and when to take them.  If you miss an opportunity, don’t worry…Waterfowl hunting in Uruguay always offers plenty of new chances at birds, and you will almost always reach your limit.

The duck shooting will continue for at least a good couple of hours.  Your hunting guides will have arrived at the blind before sunrise, having placed all the decoys strategically in front of your hiding place. The guide will handle the dog to retrieve your birds and will provide the shells and assist you with all of your needs: he will re-arrange the decoys if needed, too--just in case the wind direction changes.

Wingshooting in Uruguay for ducks normally ends around 9:30 or 10 in the morning.  By this point, trading ducks have pretty much settled into their morning feeding areas, and it is time to pick up all the equipment and collect all of the ducks that the group has harvested. This is a good time for pictures, and to ask your guide questions about the species you harvested.

After the picking up, you will have a short drive back to the lodge where your guides and host will detail the plans for the afternoon shoot over lunch.

While the Uruguay dove hunting destinations all include Uruguay Perdiz hunting during the Perdiz season, the Uruguay duck hunting can also be combined with this popular Upland hunting sport. Los Gauchos has joined with the premium duck hunting lodge known as "Fort Fortin" located near Chuy, Uruguay and near consistent duck hunting season after season in Uruguay. This lodge also offers Uruguay Perdiz hunting in the afternoons during May, June, and July. So, for a perfect blend of Uruguay wingshooting, try the "Fortin" lodge with Los Gauchos Outfitters. Great combination and as always, great Uruguay bird hunting.
