WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU ON YOUR
NEXT BIRD HUNTING TRIP TO URUGUAY

  • Waders (for hunting ducks in Uruguay)

  • Upland hunting boots (all venues: including Uruguay dove hunting)

  • Socks of assorted weights

  • Thermal underwear (Under Armour)

  • Upland Hunting Vest and/or shell pouch

  • Recoil shoulder pad (optional)

  • Shooting glasses (mandatory for wingshooting Uruguay)

  • Ear protection

  • Headgear appropriate for your trip
  • Perdiz Hunting in Uruguay

If you are ready to give the waders a break and do some nice walk-up shooting over pointing dogs, Perdiz offers wing shooters a unique upland hunting experience, and it pays to be prepared.

The two most important pieces of gear for a Perdiz hunt are a good pair of waterproof upland hunting boots, and a comfortable shooting vest or shell pouch.  Standing water can pile up in the best parts of the field, and the weather during Perdiz season can be chilly, so wet feet will ruin your day.

Second, the action is fast, so you will need to be able to reload quickly, and shoot accurately—so bring whatever type of gear is most comfortable for you, a pouch, or a vest.

    Duck Hunting in Uruguay

DO I need to bring waders?  This is, without a doubt, the number one question that our customers ask.  The answer is yes.  Although there are plenty of spots where you will not need waders to hunt, you will for many of them, and more than one guest has been very disappointed because they did not bring waders (against our advice to do), only hip boots, and could not cross the canal to get to the blind.

PLEASE, bring your waders.  Light fly fishing waders are fine, and will get the job done for you.  We know it is a pain in the neck to travel with them, but the duck hunting in Uruguay is some of the best in the world, and you will not want to miss out on any of it.

The Best Wingshooting Uruguay Has To Offer

…comes to those who are best prepared.  We do not want to insult your intelligence, or your experience, so all we will say is “use a checklist”.  Anyone can forget a small item (like waterproof upland hunting boots) when packing two large duffels—and normally this would not ruin the trip, because one could just go to a sporting goods store and get a new pair—but not in Uruguay, because there are none…

More On Boots – for Uruguay Dove Hunting and More!

Los Gauchos recommends LaCrosse Alpha Lite Hunting Boots (found at any Bass Pro Shops) or a pair of Irish Setter Hunting Boots (order directly from Orvis).   These boots are comfortable on your feet, and offer good protection and ankle support.

For the rest of your body, we recommend field pants (Cabela's) and a Mossy Oak TrekLite Long Sleeve Shirt (Mack’s Prairie Wings) plus some eye and headgear. Jackets: it is wise to bring a bag with a field jacket such as the Upland Jacket from Cabela’s.

Afternoon hunt take place for about 2 to 3 hours, depending on the game and the dogs. Perdiz hunting in Uruguay is easy, and the terrain is flat with short grass so it does not represent a physical challenge to the hunter.

The birds are brought back to the lodge where the chef will prepare them as an appetizer or dinner, so you will want to bring some comfortable clothes for post-hunt dining.
